Scripted studio content is typically color-graded for each intended display system – whether it is cinema, SDR consumer displays, or HDR consumer displays. Consumers enjoy the best experience when content is viewed using the display system for which it was created. In the home, it’s important that devices give consumers that choice.
In some cases, however, distribution system constraints or consumer choice may require content created for SDR displays to be presented in an HDR mode. For use in those specific cases, MovieLabs has worked with studio experts to define recommendations for mapping SDR content to HDR in a way that preserves the consumer experience.
